It’s a New Year and in January we all are bombarded with New Year New You, How to get fitter, leaner, six pack abs, lose 14lbs in 5 Days. Is 2024 going to be the year to stop this nonsense, this pressure and this ridiculous way of make one month of the year a time to punish ourselves and inevitably give up in Feb because it was just too bloody hard!
January should be the month for us to reflect and see how the year will look for us. How we felt about the year before and if there are any changes or add ins we want to make our life ahead if there is anything that worked for us the year before and we are going to be sticking to – NOT looking at just the month ahead.
Inevitably January is a time to go in all guns blazing declaring “Dry January” “Bikini Body in 5 Days” and in all honesty it can be done but it can also be miserable and what happens at the end of Jan………??
My approach with all my clients, new and old, after having done all of the above myself, is to take January as the month to decide what the year ahead is going to look like, what health goals are achievable and what the steps are that are going to get them there in a sensible way. Plan the journey and make sure they are ready!
The pills, regimes, injections, myths that are being shared at this time of year are really not going to be sustainable if the approach is a long term one there is no rush to the finish line, no feelings of missing out and no miserable moments if you plan, go the sensible route and take your time.
Being in the right mental space and physical space to want to achieve results is key to success you alone have to decide that the results you want to see are doable and achievable for your life.
What works for one person may not work for you.
So let's take January as a time to work out how you want to feel this time next year. How you want to achieve that goal and who you want to achieve it for??
